Swiss chard at our UrbanPonics farm are a treat to see .It has dark green leaves with a thick red stalk. The taste is earthy and is packed with minerals and vitamins such as potassium, manganese and Vitamins A, C and K.
These savoyed greens brighten any salads. The more refined taste comes when cooked well. It goes well with dips. Enjoy it cooked or raw in salads or on sandwiches or wraps, boiled, sauteed or add to soups and casseroles
QUICK TIP:
Remove the mid rib to reduce bitterness.
FUN FACT:
Surprisingly, Swiss chard did not originate in Switzerland. Swiss chard’s place of origin is Sicily, Italy. Legend has it that a Swiss botanist was responsible for determining the scientific name and ‘Swiss’ stuck !!
